Course Description
This course surveys the major biblical texts and themes that shape a theology of mission, tracing God’s redemptive purpose from the Old Testament through the Gospels, Acts, the Pauline Epistles, and Revelation. Particular attention is given to how the Reformed tradition has understood mission in light of God’s sovereign purposes in redemption and the advancement of his kingdom.
Students will also explore key developments in the history of Christian mission, including twentieth-century missionary movements and differing ecumenical, evangelical, and Roman Catholic approaches to mission. Important missiological themes such as the missio Dei, contextualisation, evangelism and social justice, and the church’s missional identity will be examined. Throughout the course, students will critically evaluate these issues from a biblical and confessional Reformed perspective, while cultivating a mission theology shaped by prayer, dependence on the Holy Spirit, and faithful discipleship.
